It must be genetic. But she takes it even further - it is not enough to torture the body, oh no; the true release lies in mauling the soul. Jabez revels in causing pain - but she has little interest in killing. There are no friends or foes in her world; merely bodies and minds to be twisted, torn, and tortured. She is unpredictably cunning and heartless, forever ready and willing to manipulate others - though rarely to any visible end other than shared chaos and agony, even her own. The scars on her legs are self-inflicted wounds brought on by sheer boredom and need; the need to slake her thirst for blood and pain. For in pain, she would say, life is defined.
