Eye Color: Yellow
Pelt Color: Gray
Physical Description: Damien's build is generally long and lean; she's never had the luxury of the support system of a pack, and it shows. She is built for short bursts of speed and long walks, but she doesn't have the running stamina many others boast. In terms of brute strength she is fairly average - but she has learned to make the best of what she has, and make up for any lacking in brawn with tenacity. Despite being nominally malnourished, she has taken good care of her thick gray coat. Her markings consist of light gray "socks" on her paws, very dark tail tip, and tearstain-like patterns on her eyes and muzzle.
Never having been a part of a pack, Damien's social skills are... somewhat diminished. She was once described as "painfully naive - and tragically wise." She is quite clever and incredibly insightful, but knows precious little about how the real world works. As a result, she is insatiably curious, but often reluctant to ask questions or initiate interactions. Damien is a cynic at heart, constantly suspicious out of habit, but does her best to give others the benefit of the doubt - she always tries to find good in others; if it can't be found, however, she doesn't waste any more time on them. She is a very dedicated sort; once she commits to something - whether it is a friendship, a fight, or an opinion - she will not let go of it. At the end of the day, Damien is complicated. She is the shaman soul in the mind of a child.

Destiny likes to play favorites. It's the ones she loves that she lets alone.
. . . "I think destiny hates me." Her voice was small and low, with undulating undercurrents like baby thunder. Even her howling songs had begun to round out into richer, darker tones - though they still bore fissures around the edges. She was changing. She was growing up. And he knew it. She trotted alongside him, struggling slightly to keep up with his long stride. "I think she hates both of us," she continued. "Why else would she leave me without a family?"
. . . "And pass you off on me." He knew the comment would sting the instant he said it. He had found her, barely weaned, wandering in the forest alone, and for almost two years he had guided her. He guarded her like a daughter, like a sister, like... She had stopped padding along, and he looked back, sinking into the gleam of her golden-yellow eyes, still so inexplicably full of youth and hope despite it all - or perhaps because of it all. He wanted to take back the remark, but staring back at her, he knew he couldn't. In fact, shouldn't. Reality was eating at him in a way she wouldn't understand. "Damien..." Words just didn't come when he needed them.
. . . "What do you mean?" She looked as if she had wilted. Her fur lay flat over her lean muscles as if she'd just come out of a lake and hadn't bothered to shake. The gray tearstains embedded with poetic permanence on her face seemed to run afresh in his mind's eye. "Ephram?"
. . . He couldn't look at her anymore. His falling spirits mirrored the failing light. Ephram's black coat bristled as he slowly sat down - this was the story of his long life. "Someday you'll understand," he finally managed to say, his dark eyes set on the forest ahead. "I've taught you what I can. Anything more you could learn from me... Nothing else is worth repeating."
. . . Fear struck her. "But... You're not leaving me! You can't, I don't know... I don't know what to do. I don't know where to go. I don't... I don't understand."
. . . "You have what you need. You'll learn." A growl edged its way into his tone, part pain, part anger. He loved her - and that was the problem. He didn't know how. He couldn't. His lips flickered upwards on unconvinced muscles. "You need to go."
. . . Damien trembled, her spine tingled and her skin crawled at his unfamiliar tone. Ephram had always been distant, but never cruel. Not to her. This was not him; it couldn't be him. "But I need you. I... I thought..."
. . . "You don't know what you thought!" He spun around, flashing sharp white fangs, bristling. He'd made the decision, and there was no going back.
. . . She leapt back instantly, terrified by the sudden threat of violence directed at her. "Ephram!" Damien yelped, scrambling in the scattered pine needles, tail between her legs. "I thought we'd stay together for always!"
. . . "If you thought that, then you never knew me." He snarled and leapt at her, throwing his full, massive weight in her direction. Ephram fell just short. The young female twisted and bolted away in terror. He had never seen her run so fast. He never would again.
"And right now there's a war between the vanities
But all i see is you and me
And the fight for you is all I’ve ever known
So come home...
Everything I can't be is everything you should be
And that's why I need you here..."
